Wine Bar Bistrot By the Glass was created by Fotini Pantzia. It opened in 2012. Collaboration, action, courage and risk taking were her answer to fear, idleness and abandonment after the uprisings and destruction of Athens in 2011.
It is housed in the Ralli Gallery (arcade, stoa) on G. Souris 3 street, in the heart of Athens, facing the 11th century Russian Church in the small square, a few steps off the entrance of the National Botanical Garden of Athens. The Gallery was built in 1925, very much a part of the urban center.
“A refuge to hide, to isolate oneself from the city’s buzz, to take a breath and then dive again in the everyday reality of Athens” in the words of Fotini the owner, it is an arcade magically transferring you to Old Athens.
From Spring till the end of October the secret garden on the Rallou Manou square is a starry heaven welcoming you, with the stone-built Byzantine type church on the one side and the statue honoring the unknown artist on the other, in the background, amid lush vegetation.
